BAC Diablas District Cup Champs!

December 2010 - The BAC Diablas U14 Girls soccer team closed out a successful 2010 season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Fruitridge Fusion in the District VI Cup Challenge tournament final. In winning the Cup Challenge, the Diablas join an elite group of teams from BAC that have made a tradition of winning the perpetual Challenge Cups in past years.

The Diablas continued on what has been a stellar, two year performance. In 2009, this same team was eliminated from playing in the U12 championship on goal differential. This time around, the determined young ladies left nothing to chance. Fresh from their victory at the Elk Grove Invitational, the aggressive squad from College Greens worked hard under lights in the cold and wet conditions of November and December to prepare for the year end tournament.
Leading up to the final, the Diablas developed a strong possession game that would frustrate and wear down their opponents. They gained confidence in the District Cup preliminaries by knocking out strong teams from Roseville and their strongest rivals from across town, the Natomas Galaxy.

On a cold and wet December night at Kemp Field in Folsom in front of a large and noisy crowd, the Fruitridge Fusion gave the Diablas their toughest match of the year. The defense, anchored by Brittany Davis and Marcelina Montoya held off early counter-attacks from the Fusion. Once again possession was the story with the twin duo of Miranda and Marisa Sanchez controlling the midfield and feeding the explosive attack of strikers Irais Payton and Katelyn Chandler (two goals). The entire team overcame the distraction of injuries and a noisy crowd to culminate what will be a most memorable season for years to come.

BAC MILAN WINS THE 2008 DISTRICT CUP!

 

December 2008 – BAC Milan battled hard to win the District VI, U16 Boys Championship for the prestigious District Cup. Milan, comprised of mostly first year U16 players, are proud that their names will now reside on the perpetual District Cup. They are in good company with many great teams from the past including BAC’s Invasion of 2005.

Leading up to the final, Milan knocked off teams from Natomas, Fairfield, and Roseville, going undefeated in the preliminaries. The stage was set on a cold evening at Woodland Community Center, under the lights, against the very potent Foothill Blue Crew.

The Blue Crew winners of the Citrus Heights Tournament came to the final into the tournament with an explosive offensive arsenal having scored 54 goals during the fall season. The match paired Milan’s possession against the counter attacking style of the Crew.

Milan struck first with two goals by striker Matthew McKewon including a header off a beautiful cross from Juan DelRio. Blue Crew followed with a goal from a penalty kick from a contested hand ball in the penalty area.  The second half started with an explosive goal from midfielder Mario Vera.  Milan continued its attack to widen the lead with McKowen’s third goal of the game. The Blue Crew answered back in the 64th and 70th minute to close in on BAC’s lead. Despite the five minutes of stoppage time added to the game, Milan’s defenders held off the Blue Crew to claim their third District Cup in four years.

The game’s spectators were on the edge of their seats most of the game and were awarded with a classic match for their great display of sportsmanship as they cheered both teams after the game. The players all left with a great appreciation for one another. The Milan boys are appreciative of both clubs and District VI and especially grateful for the support they’ve received from the BAC Board and community this year. 

BAC INVASION WINS THE 2007 DISTRICT CUP

December 2007 - The BAC Invasion competed in the finals of the U-19 Boys Cup Challenge Division in the District Cup tournament held at Riverfront Park on
December 8th.  Although the final game was exciting, the path to the championship was equally exhilarating.  During the preliminary rounds, the Invasion found itself
tied with the Parkway Underground, who finally had all of its top players together
after a sporadic regular season.  A playoff game was needed, which took place
under the lights at Folsom’s Kemp Field on December 5th.  Parkway came out
with lots of energy and aggressiveness, but they could not overcome two goals by forward Ben Oler.  The match ended with a score of 2 to 1.

 

In the finals, the Invasion faced the Fruitridge Mexico, which was a team that came in undefeated this year. Fruitridge beat the Invasion twice during the regular season and had
an undefeated streak that purportedly spanned several years. Not surprisingly, the game
was 90 minutes of full-contact soccer with the Invasion’s defense (Brian Pruitt,
Sean Pruitt, Tyler Carey, Jacob Cuellar-Wilson, Will Kukis, Zack Wanlass, Joey Chasko
and goalie Larry Aniya) shutting down the Fruitridge scorers. The offense, which included forwards Ben Oler, Shawn Kahan, and Brad Heinsohn, as well as midfielders
Brandon Creel, Matt Iwasa, and Sly Baranski, controlled the second half of play and
created some promising opportunities.

 

Despite the great play on both sides of the ball, the score ended in regulation at
0 to 0.  In the first penalty kick period, the perfection continued.  Fruitridge shot five consecutive penalty kicks without a miss.  The Invasion countered with penalty kick goals
by Ben Oler, Shawn Kahan, Brandon Creel, Matt Iwasa, and Larry Aniya.  In the second penalty kick period, Fruitridge finally cracked by missing their shot wide
of the goal.  The Invasion’s Zack Wanlass then walked up and calmly struck the winning
shot into the right corner.

 


With this win, the BAC Invasion secured their fourth District Cup championship,
three of which were in the elite Cup Challenge Division.  The Invasion now has
secured a spot on the perpetual trophies for the U-14, U-16, and U-19 age groups.
In doing so, they become the first team from the River City Youth Soccer League (RCYSL)
to be represented on the U-19 Boys District Cup.  The team would like to
thank the many friends and family members who came out to support the team at
the tournament, just as they have throughout this very successful season.

Pumas Invade Redding Soccer

October 2007 - The BAC Pumas (U12 Boys) claimed the Rip Ashe Tournament with a 4-2 victory in the final match over the Livermore Warriors. The Pumas came to Redding for the first time and played on artificial turf. The conditions were very warm for October; 89 degrees and about 10 degrees warmer on rubberized field. Like the Pumas, the Livermore team entered the tournament undefeated in league play and easily handled their opponents, building up to a great final match.

The Warriors struck first with a goal in the upright to take the lead and later scored on a penalty kick. There were a total of three lead changes. Elias Burbick kept the Pumas in the game with his three goals and explosive play. The Pumas struck the final blow in the second half with a goal from Joshua Sanchez to take and hold the lead. Newcomers Michael Bracken and Miles Sabol each played their best games yet solidifying the midfield. The back four Jerry Black, Garrett Brown, Anthony Norman, and Devon Winslow provided another solid effort along with keeper, Thomas Guerrero.

Congratulations to the rest of the squad for their valiant effort:  Eric Barreto, Hunter Brown, Daniel Flores, Sebastian Gutierrez, and Charles Love.  

During this tournament, the boys bonded as a team; shared fun, food, and laughs; got lost in a corn maze, stayed out way too late at a haunted house, and ended up at the Sundial Bridge. The memories that were created in Redding will never be forgotten by the players, friends, and families of the Pumas.

BAC INVASION VICTORIOUS AT THE 2007 SAN RAMON SCRAMBLE

 SEPTEMBER 2007 - The BAC Invasion (U-19 Boys) competed in the 10th Annual San Ramon Scramble on September 29th and 30th.  This was the Invasion’s first year of participation in the tournament, which is primarily designed for older age groups.  In prior years, the Invasion had been among the top teams at the Castro Valley Classic, which entertains teams up to U-16.

The Invasion entered the event with only eleven (11) players on Saturday and was missing three starters.  Nevertheless, the team played flawlessly in defeating squads from Oakland (3-1) and Antioch (1-0).  On Sunday, the Invasion was bolstered by the arrival of forward Ben Oler and they easily defeated an energetic team from Castro Valley (4-1).  In the finals, the Invasion was matched up against a Santa Rosa team that had been undefeated this season.  Through some aggressive play, the Invasion was able to counter an early goal by Santa Rosa and then took the lead despite going down to ten players due to on-field injuries to Sly Baranski and Joey Chasko.  In the second half, Baranski was able to return and the Invasion was able to dominate play, winning by the final margin of 4-2. 

The Invasion was fortunate to receive some exceptional play from first-year forward Hans Obaldia, who scored six goals in the tournament, including two in the final game.  Other key scorers in the tournament included Zack Wanlass, Ben Oler, Matt Iwasa (2), and Brandon Creel (2).  The defense received exceptional play from Brian Pruitt, Zack Wanlass, Joey Chasko, Will Kukis, and Tyler Carey, who had to step in as goalie for the first time this season.  In addition, midfielders Sly Baranski and Brad Heinsohn were solid on both ends of the field

The team enjoyed a great weekend in San Ramon with good food and great comradeship.  Each of the players would like to thank their families for their support and sponsorship for the event. 

 

PUMAS TAKE CASTRO VALLEY AUTUMN CLASSIC

September 2007 - The BAC Pumas (U12 Boys) playing in Castro Valley for the first time claimed the Castro Valley Boys Autumn Classic Cup by shutting out the Hayward Bad Boyz by a score of 2-0. BAC teams in previous years have been very competitive making it to the finals but have never claimed the cup in any age division.

The team from Hayward was strong up front with two speedy, powerful strikers, but they were shut down by the solid defense of the back four Jerry Black, Anthony Norman, Devon Winslow, and Garrett Brown.  Pumas Goalkeeper Thomas Guerrero was spectacular with clutch stops in the air and on the ground.

The Pumas received solid play throughout the tournament from Strikers Elias Burbick and Joshua Sanchez and Midfielders Eric Barreto, Hunter Brown, and Michael Bracken.

Invasion Win the 2007 Valley Hi Classic

  AUGUST 2007 - The BAC Invasion (U-19 Boys) competed in the 4th Annual Valley Hi Classic in Sacramento on August 25th and 26th.  This was the Invasion’s third time competing in this pre-season event, having placed 2nd the last two years.  This year, the Invasion defeated two teams from Elk Grove (4-0 and 2-1) and one from Southgate (4-1) in the preliminaries, which set up a final against another undefeated team, Valley Hi United.  The championship game was full of tension and excitement early on, but both teams fell victim to exhaustion by the second half.  The Invasion defense, consisting of Tyler Carey, Will Kukis, Joey Chasko, Brian Pruitt, and Josh Irwin, repelled numerous attacks in that half.  Goalie Larry Aniya was superb in recording over a dozen saves, some of which were uncontested shots on goal. 

Amazingly, the game ended in regulation at 0-0 and that held firm through the first overtime period.  In the second overtime period, the Invasion kicked it into high gear and began to control the game.  With about 90 seconds left in the period, Shawn Kahan took the ball to the right wing and crossed it to Matt Iwasa, who struck it through the right corner for the game winner! 

The team seemed more relieved than excited when the game was over because they knew that had barely escaped defeat many times during the contest.  The Invasion sends its appreciation to their hosts at the Valley Hi Soccer Club and to the Valley Hi United soccer team for their excellent play.
